Skate To Recover: PLNU Pre-Screening

On April 23rd, we gathered at Point Loma Nazarene University for a special pre-screening of Skate to Recover in partnership with the PLNU Center for International Development. The evening brought together students, faculty, friends, and supporters for an early look at the documentary and the growing story of skateboarding in South Sudan.

The night began with the reading of David and Goliath. A precursor to the story of Tite and the South Sudan skate community. Like David stepping onto the battlefield against impossible odds, Tite’s story reflects courage, faith, and perseverance in a place where skateboarding barely exists and opportunities are limited. What started as a small vision continues to grow into something far bigger than a skateboard: a movement of belonging, healing, and hope. Skateboarding for peace in South Sudan.

Following the screening, David Russo, founder of Abiding Practice and a key partner in the journey of Skate to Recover, led a panel discussion with Gabriel Richardson (Let Known Founder & Storyteller), Tim Wolf (Filmaker), and Cameron Mertins (Filmmaker). The conversation reflected on the filmmaking process, the deeper heart behind the project, and the vision for building South Sudan’s first skatepark.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who attended, listened, asked questions, and supported the mission. As the film continues through final post-production, we’re excited to announce that more screenings and events are coming this summer.
